Do acrylic nails damage your real nails when you have them taken off?

and if so, why?

surely they would just grow out, no harm done?Do acrylic nails damage your real nails when you have them taken off?
Yes they do get damaged from the ';drilling'; (filing with a dremel tool) they do and from the acrylic they put on; even if they soak your nails in acetone to get the acrylics off, it still causes your natural nails to peel off in some areas. When you get the acrylics off, your natural nails are very thin and very soft but eventually that will grow out and strengthen. You also may have white spots on your nails from the peeling/flaking from them being taken off but again, this will grow out eventually.

I have never had problems myself (I get new sets of acrylics every 6 months faithfully and give my natural nails a day or two to ';recover'; between new sets) however I have seen some women who's nails and nail beds have been irreversibly damaged by acrylics; their nails are lumpy or just really banded looking but they did not take good care of their nails while they had the fake ones on.Do acrylic nails damage your real nails when you have them taken off?
Once the nails have been taken off, your actual ends of your real nail where the acrylics have been glued look rank and are soft, it takes a while for them to grow out and look natural again,
It really depends on who was doing your nails. If you have been going to a budget nail salon that uses inferior products and a drill to file your nails then yes, your nails will be damaged when you take them off. The majority of these type of salons do not have the training to use the drill in the correct manner. The drill should NEVER be used on the natural nail. Most times these techs over drill the natural nail and you will end up with what we call ';rings of fire.'; Those red lines are where they almost drilled through your nail bed. Inferior nail products also are damaging to your nails.

I have been doing nails since 1991. When I remove a set of nails they might be a bit weaker than normal, but otherwise the nails are in good condition. I use quality products and I do not drill on the natural nail. I am careful about how much filing I do on the nail.

Your best bet is to go to a reputable nail tech and have the nails soaked off. That would be the least damaging.
don't get fake nails. when you take them off they make your real nails flimsy and thin and they even hurt.
When you want to remove your nails you have to use this product, its by Sally Hansen (you can buy it at any drugstore) and its a big jar of acetone remover made especially for removing acrylic nails! It comes with a rough sponge and you soak your fingertips and rub them on the sponge until your fake nails have dissolved right before your eyes! Its such a great product and your natural nails will come out smooth and normal :)
i heard that if you don't use them for a long period of time, your regular nails will eventually grow in - as strong as they were before.

but if you use the acrylic nails for a long period of time - +1 year...then you could start to do damage
