I have been getting acrylic nails for 15 years?

My natural nails are now in terrible shape, they are peeling and very thin. I would like to restore my nails for my wedding that is one year away. I would love to have strong, natural nails for this event. What do I do? Are there supplements that I can take that REALLY WORK, strengthening products that I can use? Thanks!I have been getting acrylic nails for 15 years?
To help restore you natural nails, there are several things you can do. As far as supplements go, as long as you are eating healthy, well-balanced meals then your body should already have enough of the vitamins and minerals which play a role in healthy hair, skin, and nails. There is one supplement which has been proven to be beneficial to nails for people who aren't malnourished, and that supplement is Biotin. Calcium and Iron are also important supplements. But, problems with nails often indicate a nutricional deficiency, and that needs to be treated before any supplements will be beneficial. For example, if you are not getting enough protein in your diet, then calcium is not utilized properly in your nails. As for iron, too much can be as troublesome as too little. So, a well-balanced diet is important, and the use of a basic multi-vitamin and additional biotin supplements can be very helpful as long as you aren't malnourished in any way. If you aren't eating right, then the first step is to establish good eating habits, and then you can take supplements once your eating habits have improved.

There are a few other simple, yet important steps you can take to help with your nails. One is to use gloves whenever you are going to be doing dishes, or whenever your hands may be exposed to household chemicals and/or water for extended periods of time. Both household cleaners, and water can be extremely damaging to your nails. Water is one of the worst things for you nails. Each time your nails get wet, they expand. And when they dry, they contract. If this happens too often, it will result in weak, brittle nails. To help combat this, use gloves whenever possible, and when your hands do get wet, promptly dry them thoroughly, and apply a good moisturizing lotion to your hands and massage it into your nails, and the skin surrounding them. This will help to keep them moisturized, and in turn will improve not only your skin, but your nails as well. Use after every hand washing. In the winter, if you wear gloves for warmth, apply hand lotion before putting the gloves on.

One lst thing is the use of a good quality cuticle oil, especially one that contains Jojoba Oil. This has natural healing properties, and its molecules are small enough to penetrate the surface of the nail, and be absorbed into it. Vitamin E is often cited as a good way to moisturize your nails, but its molecules are too large to penetrate the nail surface, so it really doesn't do much for them, though it may be beneficial to you cuticles, and surrounding skin. Apply cuticle oil to your cuticles, and massage into your cuticles, and your nails too. Apply 2-3 times a day, every day. Basically, its a good idea to use cuticle oil as often as you can. Of course, I don't mean like every five minutes or whatever. But, its a good idea to keep a small bottle on hand such as in your purse. And when you have a few minutes to spare, such as when you are waiting at the doctors office to be seen, or you are a passenger in a car, waiting for dinner to finish cooking - things like that. Take advantage of that spare time and apply some cuticle oil. It only takes a minute or so to do, and its very beneficial to your nails.

Either way, it will take several weeks before you begin to notice the effects of any of these treatments. But, you have a year to go before your wedding, so that will give you plenty of time to regain healthy, and strong natural nails.

One note: A lot of people will tell you to use nail strengtheners. If you use them, be certain that they do not contain any formaldehyde, because most of them have this chemical in them. And while those that contain formaldehyde may help in the short term - over time, your nails will become dry, and brittle from the formaldehyde. So, just look for strengtheners that do not have this chemical in them.

I hope this helps!I have been getting acrylic nails for 15 years?
My mother had acrylic nails[I do to!] for awhile and every now and then we get them taken off and let our natural nails kind of ';air out';.

This is what we do:

They have this thing called a overlay, its like a gel. It goes on your nails and makes your nail beds thicker. In a way its like acrylics, but no tips[

The overlay will grow out with your nails, no need to remove it at all.... but you can always add to it when its growing out from the cuticle area. It looks natual and would be best if you waited a month before getting any overlay services, give your nail's some time to treat and restore themselves.]

We Use a very good base coat ( not as much chemicals in base coats as clear/colored polish or top coats.

Soak your poor damaged nails in moisture. Cuticle oil and nail oil are both good. It works really well.

Hope I helped!
